The forecast said clear three nights in a row. It wasn’t. On the fourth, the cloud moved twenty minutes before the moon passed the tower, and I had one try at it.

Planning the shot

Sazova Castle sits in a park on the edge of Eskişehir. I checked the moon’s path days before, and found one spot where it would rise just behind the tallest tower. The window was about ten minutes long.

Four nights of waiting

Three nights in a row the cloud came in just before moonrise. On the fourth I almost stayed home. Then the sky cleared, the lamps came on in the park, and the moon came up exactly where the app said it would.

It’s a single exposure. No swapped sky, no added moon. If it’s in the frame, it was in the sky that night.
